Here is a letter for children to give to their parents who are involved in a highly contested and bitter custody, visitation or divorce war. This letter is for kids who want their parents to stop fighting and feuding regarding custody and visitation
Dear Mom and Dad,
I love both of you equally but I don’t care about the custody, child support, visitation or divorce war. I just want to be a child. I want a real childhood. I care about that.
I want to play with my friends, do sports or activities and love and be loved. I just want it all to end or if it will never end then leave me out of it. Don’t discuss it with me because I don’t care. Don’t try to get me on your side because I don’t care.
I want a childhood. I want to be a child. I care about that. I want to play with my friends, do sports or activities and love and be loved. I want to learn, I want to develop and I want to be happy. I have a right to be happy. Happiness for me is also being left out of this custody feud. Please respect my wishes.
You may think that I need counseling but if I need it, it is your fault. Respectfully, you two need counseling more than I do. I have heard and seen enough of the games, bickering and inappropriate conduct. I just don’t care anymore who did what, said what or who is at fault for this mess. If you cannot end it then leave me out of it.
I do not want to hear my parents talk bad about each other, directly or indirectly. I also do not want to hear your friends, relatives or others speak negatively about my other parent. Please inform every one of my wishes. Don’t talk to me about the war, because I don’t care. Don’t talk about the war when I can hear it because I don’t care. All that I care is that these endless , nasty battles end NOW!
If you love me as much you say you do, you would settle this peacefully and civilly out of Court in a fair and just manner. I don’t care how it is settled, so don’t tell me how it is settled because I don’t care. Please give me my childhood back because it is the only childhood I will ever have.
